Well, tonight and tomorrow just got real interesting for the Bruins. I have no clue how they are going to become cap compliant.

I mean what does Chiarelli do? Does he try to get by with moving bottom 6 players like Campbell, Kelly, McQuaid or throw out some bigger fish in Eriksson, Marchand, or Boychuk.

That $5.8M is all but locked up with Smith and Krug, so that leaves no money for a 4th liner and 13th forward.

Bruins have enough talent of Lucic, Krejci, Bergeron, Marchand, Ericksson, Smith, etc that they should fill in the holes w/ fillers or players on the cheap...

Who knows, u might strike lightening in a bottle............

it is time to move kelly and campbell, iginla or not it is time to let the kids play. I get weary when I hear rumors like Erikkson is available since he is capable of more than he provided last season.

Playing around with CapGeek... not the best, but doable:

Lucic (6M) - Krejci (5.25M) - Eriksson (4.25M)
Marchand (4.5M) - Bergeron (6.5M) - Smith (2.5M)
Soderberg (1.08M) - Spooner (760K) - Khokhlachev (786K)
Florek (660K) - Kelly (3M) - Paille (1.3M)
- Lindblad (833K)

Chara - Boychuk
Seids - Hamilton
Krug (2.25M) - Miller
Bartkowski (715K)

In this scenario, Smith takes a two-year bridge deal like Marchand in 2011 (two years, $5 mil) and Krug takes a 2.25M per year deal for the next two years. Florek and Bart both sign their one-year tenders, and Koko/Spooner/Lindblad are called up while Campbell and McQuaid are traded for cap relief.

I would not move Eriksson at all. Post-Olympics Eriksson was the real Eriksson.

That's not that terrible, but that $3M for Kelly on the 4th line is really ugly to look at. I can't see how a team at the cap floor wouldn't want to add some veteran stability. Would rather see Campbell kept and Kelly shipped out, but obviously if there are no takers for him you buy out #11

I'd like to see Krejci and Erikksson play on a line for a little while or even see them put the russian on that top line because it is hard to break up the swedish connection

Game that had Eriksson with Lucic/Krejci saw Eriksson pot four assists.

Is Kelly still hurt? Can we buy him out?

Nah, 'cause he finished the year with an injury that deemed him unfit to play. Unless he's cleared by Monday's deadline, it can't happen.

Is there a legitimate chance the B's will be able to shed Kelly? I like him but that contract is clearly the #1 issue for the B's.

Like someone already said, time to let the kids play. I would much rather gamble on Smith, Eriksson, Koko or Spooner making up Iggys production than move a core piece to retain him

It's possible for sure, but he has a no-trade, so he controls where he goes. I know Phoenix will be looking for a third-line center, and I know Calgary and Buffalo are among the teams looking to meet cap floor. There's definitely a market out there, but I think it'll be tough to get Kelly to agree to leave Boston for a place like that.

I honestly think the easiest route here is trading Gregory Campbell -- a player I think we've all overrated at times -- and exploring the possibility of moving Adam McQuaid. You could replace these players with RFA tenders and AHL callups without a noticeable loss from your end-of-year win total, if you ask me.
